Web World, as it will be named for the purpose of this document, is a simulation of life, based on gathered or created statistics of people’s paths throughout life.

Introduction

Each pixel of the page will represent an individual person. Clicking on any given pixel will give you information on that person. Besides the information in the popup, the only visual feedback from the simulation will be the changing colour of the pixels as the person changes. At birth the pixel is white. As they grow older and are affected by the world around them, they will gain and change colours. At mid-life, the pixel will be at full chroma, then begin to get dark, until it turns completely black and dies. An example would be:

  • Birth -rgb(255, 255, 255)
  • Childhood -rgb(255, 240, 220)
  • Adolescence -rgb(255, 200, 150)
  • Young Adulthood -rgb(255, 160, 100)
  • Adulthood -rgb(255, 140, 90)
  • Middle Age -rgb(210, 100, 60)
  • Seniority -rgb(150, 50, 20)
  • Death -rgb(0, 0, 0)

After a death, a new person can inhabit that same pixel space.

Colours

The colours affecting the pixels represent the following traits in a person:

  • Red for health
  • Green for success, as perceived by the individual
  • and Blue for social belonging

This set of colours represents the population in a strictly amoral fashion. A value of rgb(120, 210, 245) could equally represent a fat mobster with a successful career making money from other people’s misery, or a senior citizen in a retirement community who’s lived a long and fulfilling life.

More colour overlays may be added on, changeable with a keystroke, with a legend either permanently or temporarily on the screen.

Birth, Life, Statistics

Each person is born from at least one other person. Birth statistics would power the birthrate, parent number, parent age.

Schooling statistics will power the ages and levels of education.

Employment statistics will power employment numbers, salary levels, occupations.

Health statistics will power health levels, across all ages.

Social belonging will be measured by the number of significant connections a person has.

Success will be a result of a person’s history of Social belonging, health, education, occupation, salary, parenthood, and significant past events.

Influences

A newborn pixel would be entirely affected by the life of their parent(s). As they age, pixels become less influenced by their parents, and more affected by other people, environments, and events.

 Start

The simulation would start with 50 pixels spread out in a 200×200 pixel square in the middle of the screen. They will procreate and more pixels will arrive.

Persistence

While people may die, and new people may take their place, each person’s life is recorded, creating a history for each person. The records would include:

  • Name (and unique ID)
  • Age, DOB, DOD
  • Parents Names (and unique IDs, creating a family tree)
  • Education, Career, pastimes
  • RGB history as a coloured line
  • Psychological history
  • Event history
