Last Saturday Marisa had a movie monster themed party, starring herself, Alex, Evan, Heather, Jacob, Carolina, Jessie, Rachel, Stefan, Laura, and myself. They built a cardboard city and we destroyed it. It was quite fun.

Laura is going to the Dominican in an hour and a half, to partake in her father’s wedding ceremony. He’s already legally married, but now he’s doing a proper ceremony with family and a church and everything. Laura’s one of the bride’s maids.

After the wedding she’ll be stopping by New York to see her cousin Gaby who won’t be able to make it to the wedding. They used to basically live together in the Dominican for a while and they were very close. They haven’t seen each other for a few years now, but chat every once in a while. I’ve never met Gaby or nearly any of Laura’s family on her father’s side. I hope I do get to soon, and see the compound and beach house and everything in the Dominican. It’s a huge part of Laura’s life that I’ve never been able to be part of, other than enjoying her stories about it. I also wish Laura got to see Gaby more often.

Laura’s brothers will be here briefly tomorrow before taking off for the airport themselves. Laura will be gone for ten long days, most of which I will be working, though…

On Friday I leave on a train for Toronto, then Mississauga, where I will be partaking in my cousin’s wedding. I’ve never been on a train and am inordinately excited about it. I return on Sunday.

Another first, today I got a tattoo! A red band, about half an inch think, on my right wrist. For almost seven years now, since a month after we started dating, Laura and I have been wearing little red strings on our dominant hands (my right, her left). Evan had just gotten some glow sticks and gave us the strings that came with them, as he was going to tie the glow sticks to shoe laces to do some poi. Laura and I tied them to one another, and have kept them on since. For a few years now I’ve intended to get this tattoo, and yesterday we booked the appointment. I got the same artist as Laura did for hers. Apparently we have a regular tattoo artist now, Eli (pronounced Elly). Fun!

Laura just gave me a haircut to beat the summer heat. It’s almost a jarhead cut. It works.
